A Mode of Transportation

Great writing transports one vicariously to realms that the reader would not otherwise experience.

One of these areas is physical: ancient, modern, or futuristic. A great writer can bring the past into the present and make the reader experience the culture, the locale, the people of the time. Jean Auel's great novels come to mind.

Another region is the pschological realm: Again great writing conveys us into the minds of characters giving us a better understanding of our motives, our passions, our wants, and our needs. Crime and Punishment is a good example.

Then there is the sociological realm where great writing gets the reader involved in the world of crime, or romance, or poverty, or wealth, and many other social situations, problems and solutions. Charles Dickens was such a writer.

The cultural region is another area where great writing has an impact, particularly authors from other ethnicities that help us to understand the mores and viewpoints that are different.

Finally we enter the political sphere. Here again, great writing points out the good and bad of different ideologies, political parties, governments. It introduces us to the search for power and influence, the good and the bad, the acceptable and the unacceptable.

Great writing occurs in fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc. Great writers abound, and each reader has his or her favorite.

Increase Your Online Traffic in 60 Minutes or Less

Increasing your website traffic does not have to be a long drawn out procedure that takes up a lot of your precious time. In fact, there are a lot of things you can do to increase your website traffic in less than 60 minutes. Consider the following five tips that will take you little time and have huge results regarding traffic flow on your website.

#1 - Search Engine Listings

Obviously, if you are not listed with the major search engines, people who go to search engines to search for different products and information will not stumble upon your website. Start with the larger more popular search engines and get your URL listed. This does not take a lot of time to get started and is something you should do immediately.

#2 - Search Engine Optimization

Getting listed with the search engines is important, but optimizing your site so that it ranks well is equally important. Find out what keywords people are searching for regarding your content and then include them on your website to get more traffic.

#3 - Quality Content

Quality content is important if you want large search engines to list you, and it is also a great way to include the many keywords you will need to drive up your ranking in the search engines and to get more people to visit your site. Also, if you have quality content once the visitors are at your site, they will be more likely to stay.

#4 - Trade Links

Trading links with other websites can be done as quickly as propositioning another site through an email. The more links you have to your website, the more traffic you will receive. Plus, lots of links help you climb to the top of the search engines as well, which is very important for driving visitors to your website.

#5 - More Pages

Having more pages on your website increases traffic simply because of the numbers. The more pages you have, the more content with related keywords you can utilize as well as links, and the more keywords and links you have means more traffic and customers. Keep this information in mind if you are building a one page website. A one page website about sunglasses will find it very difficult to compete against a 15 page website on sunglasses, simply because of the additional content and keywords targeted.

All of these suggestions are things you can easily do within the hour if you sit down and get started now. Before you know it, the traffic on your website will start picking up as well as your product sales, and you will have learned the secret to directing traffic exactly where you want it to go.

Anam Chara - Telling Your Story

We as human beings travelled in small bands for hundreds of thousands of years.

Some of our group during the day went hunting for food. In the shelter of the cave, sitting or lying around the fire we told our stories. Maybe before speech we enacted our stories. The stories we told were of courage, endeavour and of feeling afraid. We bands of humans were brought together in these acts of story telling.

I love storytelling.

Where I live there is a Green Festival. Included in this festival are evenings of traditional storytelling. It is interesting to partake of these intimate events. Today, however, storytelling remains a fringe event. Once, not so long ago, it was something most every one could do. Now, rather than tell our own stories we are left to listen to the stories of others.

Stories come down to us through all times and all cultures. Religion tells the stories of the prophets. Mythology tells the story of the human psyche. Archaeology tells the story of our home, community buildings and much much more.

In the 21st Century the dull and the ignorant will not be given the time to be listened to.

This is true of the increasing underclass. It is interesting to note that people who do not have a voice in our society tattoo or paint their bodies. It is a way of voicing their identity. This is particularly true of young people who fall foul of the law. The system takes away not only their liberty but also their voice.

They become dull and ignorant because they have no purpose. They have not been taught what it is to have a purpose in life. They are forgotten and their lives become a wasteland. Their story is never heard. It is often founded in violence, abuse or mental illness.

It takes courage to listen to the dull and the ignorant. It takes immense patience. Yet it is not fair to listen to the story of others if you are not prepared to tell and live your own story. This is not only the story of your life to date but what your story will become.

Once you focus on what your life will become then in following your vision you allow others to tell their story. You give them permission to speak their truth quietly and clearly. This is one of the greatest permissions you can give. Not only will you allow your story to be heard but by doing so you validate hearing the story of others.

Many of you go through your lives never once remembering what it feels like to have been heard. I have set before people who have thanked me profusely. They have wept. They will say that they feel heard. It is such a wondrous and privileged position to be in when another opens the storybook of their heart.

I have often heard it said

"No wants to hear my story."

This I have rarely found to be true. Keeping your story to yourself deprives us all. You allow your heart to expand when you tell your story. Telling stories to groups allows the group heart to expand.

Playwrights, filmmakers, writers, poets, storytellers, puppeteers are all telling stories. We all share in this experience when we attend at theatre, opera, folk club or cinema. Imagine a dinner party without people sharing their stories. Gossip is story.

When women engage in storytelling they tell about themselves. Men are more guarded. They tend to tell a story for other motives. They are interested in how such a story will reflect on their status.

Men will tell stories in the form of jokes or about others. Their stories are often about sport or things they own or do. Often the story of their hearts desire is not spoken. If it is then this is only in the intimacy of the bedroom, if at all.

This is another reason why, I think, men are more prone to heart attacks. They do not allow the heart's story to be told. The flow of heart energy is blocked and arteries harden. This is a physical response to and unspoken emotional dynamic.

Many people want to tell their story but end up never doing so.

A high percentage of you want to write a book. You may not be sure how you are going to do this but it remains a dream. Many of you keep a diary. However, for most of you it is only ever full of fats.

It does not contain your hearts secrets.

Relationship can be on of the greatest joys in living.

Authentic relationship is always a joy. You relate to the other through the stories you tell each other. The deeper the relationships the more emotionally charged are the stories you share. You gauge your level of friendship based on the depth of your telling.

You all want to be known.

You all want to be heard. Your stories about your lives are how you become known and how others become your friends. So many of you have low self esteem. You think your story is not worth telling. You feel unworthy of telling the story of your heart

This is often true of the relationship of son's to fathers.

In my fathers generation it was the man's duty to be the breadwinner. The mother stayed at home and looked after the children. Outside of these roles there was no other. I cannot ever say I knew my father and for a long time it left a hole in my soul.

Your family story is one that helps create who you are. Often this story is so horrific that you have to learn to re-create a more functional one. This is often part of the healing process.

In "making your life matter" you need to be prepared to tell your full story warts and all. Society does not encourage you to do this. It is only too happy to fill you up with the stories of others. This is reflected in your modern obsession with talk radio, docusoaps, big brother and all the rest of the stories that you feed off.

Telling your own story is also future based.

It is related to the dreams you have, the fantasies only you know and the flights of imagination you curb. Telling your story is not only about saying the words but feeling the feelings connected to this story.

This is the difference between someone who engages you and someone who simply tells you a series of facts. I get letters from some colleagues who I once knew and it is simply a catalogue of facts. It is like reading a to do list of what they have done. I feel a loss when I read these letters. I do not feel connected to them across the miles.

You feel engaged with the other when they tell you about their feeling experiences. This is what intimacy is. It is a sharing of a feeling relationship.

Dont Close Your Eyes Or Let Deaf Ears Fall Upon You

To listen to your customer is important, and to hear your customer is critical. But, to see what actions they take is the lifeline to your business.

Recently, I was giving an introductory presentation of the Life Enrichment course to a group of Real Estate agents.

The objective was to sell the agents on participating in the Hypmovation Life Enrichment eight -session, six-week course. The course teaches people how to apply the science of self-programming the subconscious mind through self-hypnosis to improve all areas of life.

During the twenty-two minute sales presentation, I asked questions of the agents to find out what was important to them.

The questions were:

? Do you wish that you could have more control over your life?

? What if you could completely remove and eliminate the fear of cold calling on new prospects--would that be important to you?

? How would your life change if you could permanently remove financial stress?

During the questioning and probing period, I was getting all the right vocal, body language, and yes signs from the audience. However, I didn't feel like I had fully connected with what would influence or inspire them to take action and enroll in the training.

While carefully watching my audience, the next question I asked got a resounding rise in energy from them. I knew now that I was on the right track.

The question I asked next was-

"Would it be important for you to eliminate the physical pain and everyday stress that keeps you from enjoying life more?"

After finding out what motivated and stimulated them to sit up and take interest, I was left with only two other steps. The first step was to explain the benefits of the program and how it would solve their problems. The second step was to enroll them into the program.

The principle lesson:

Listening is important. Hearing is critical. Watching the actions of your customers is the lifeline to your success in business.

While You Have the Time, Take the Time

Here in Kansas, where we live, the leaves are turning beautiful shades and falling off the trees. Just last week, I was babysitting some little boys and we were playing outside. The area around their home was carpeted in leaves--ready for our enjoyment! We raked the leaves into huge piles, jumped in them, buried people underneath them, and threw leaves at each other. We had a blast! There was almost constant giggling, and no one was ready to go in when it was lunch time. (Except for the babysitter who had had enough leaves in her hair for one day!). Though such a simple thing, our time playing in the leaves brought such wholesome enjoyment. It also served to remind me of days gone by when I was a little girl. Every fall, my parents took us outside and played in the leaves with us. What happy memories!

While being chased by little boys with handfuls of leaves, I couldn't help but wonder how many other children were missing out on such pleasure. In this post-modern age of video games, daycare, fast food, TV dinners, and entertainment overload, have our children been deprived of some of those marvelous "old-fashioned" joys of life?

Almost a year ago, I donned a white dress and walked down a church aisle to pledge my love to the man of my dreams. In doing so, I exchanged one life for another. I am still my parents' daughter, but now I am also Jesse's wife. My childhood is over. I cannot relive those days, nor can my parents. There are no more bike rides to the ice cream store, no more wrestling matches with dad (okay, we only did that when we were little. When we got older, Dad started getting hurt, so the wrestling had to stop!), no more playing in the leaves, no more building snowmen or snow forts, no more piggyback rides, no more walks to the park.

Yes, my childhood is over, but I am so thankful I can look back on it with such happy memories. My parents took so much time for me and spent so much time with me. Instead of sitting me in front of the TV, we made forts in the basement or played with finger paint. Instead of sending me off to daycare, Mom read to us, sang with us, taught us finger plays, and took us to museums. Instead of fast food for dinner, we had home-cooked meals with homemade bread we'd helped knead or green beans we had picked from our garden. Looking back over my childhood, I won't tell you my parents were perfect, but I do know they always had time for us. They realized that more important than our involvement in sports, or their volunteering in the community, was that they took the time to teach, train, and enjoy their children.

Last week, a 19-year-old friend of mine died suddenly in a tragic car accident. Neither she nor her parents knew that Wednesday was her last day on this earth. Although we are grateful Rebekah is now in the presence of the Lord, we grieve that we no longer have an opportunity to spend time with her on this earth, and we are all reminded that our life is just a "vapor." While you still have it, take the time to invest in the lives of your children and those around you. Cherish each moment. You may not have many left.

You may be thinking, "But I just don't have the time." Make the time. Evaluate your life: What activities are you currently involved in that are not going to matter ten years from now? How about 100 years? Simplify your life. Get rid of clutter and make room for joy. Someday when your children are grown and gone, they are probably not really going to remember the presents you bought for them or the opportunities you allowed them, but they will remember the time you spent with them.

There are a lot of good things in life for one to devote time to--but only a few of those things are the best things. My parents chose the best, and I will always be indebted to them.

Don't let another priceless moment slip through your hands because you are "too busy." While you have the time, take the time.

Lunesta Sleeping Pills: A Quick Guide To Lunesta

When was the last time you enjoyed a good night's sleep? I'm talking about feeling tired, heavy, and relaxed - the times when you might say "wow! I love air conditioning" and fall right into a deep sleep. If you haven't fallen asleep quickly and woken up feeling refreshed and ready for anything, then you're not alone.

I myself suffer from a light case of insomnia, so I'm writing this article because I have been introduced to a new solution to our problem. You can say goodbye to all the ineffective medications you've tried; even Ambien, which can only be safely used for about a month in most people. So where can we turn?

Many people are now choosing to buy Lunesta, a revolutionary prescription sleep aid that works better than any other current sleeping pill. Lunesta is helping people across the country enjoy life again by helping them to...

    ? Fall asleep quickly.

? Sleep like a log through the night with fewer interruptions.

? Wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start the day.

? Enjoy a great night's sleep for more than just couple of weeks. Lunesta is the only sleep aid approved for long term use.

If you're anything like me, you probably don't want to take sleeping pills. That's my first reaction, but after educating myself about Lunesta, I'm convinced that it's worth the good night's sleep and feeling of refreshment in the morning.

Do yourself a favor and go grab a nice cool glass of water, and learn more about Lunesta and how it works to help you go to a deep sleep and feel refreshed the next day.

What is the most important information I should learn about the Lunesta sleep aid?

Lunesta is part of a class of sleep aids called sedatives, and it affects the chemical balance in your body that helps you sleep. Lunesta will help you relax and drift into a deep sleep, curing your insomnia symptoms.

As with all prescription sleep medications, you should be careful when driving a car, operating heavy machines, or doing other possibly dangerous tasks. It is important to take Lunesta right before you go to bed, because it will cause drowsiness after you take the dose. Sometimes you may notice drowsiness or dizziness the next day after your Lunesta dose. If this happens, avoid any potentially dangerous activities as mentioned above.

It is important that you do not drink alcohol while you're taking Lunesta sleep medication. The combination of alcohol and Lunesta will cause dizziness or drowsiness.

Lunesta is the only prescription sleep aid that has been approved by the FDA for long-term use. If you have been taking Lunesta for more than 1 to 2 weeks, do not stop taking your dose suddenly. As with most prescription medications, this might cause Lunesta withdrawal symptoms that could make you uncomfortable. If for any reason you want to stop using Lunesta, please talk to your doctor first to find the best time period to discontinue treatment

Should You Ever Take a Payday Loan?

Payday loans have many names -- cash advances, signature loans and paycheck loans, etc. Payday lenders provide quick and easy short-term cash to those who need money immediately. That's the big reason why they're so popular.

However, payday loans come at exorbitant costs. This can -- and often does -- lead borrowers into a downward spiral of rapidly escalating debt. Let's look at the issue from various angles to get a complete picture.

First, the pluses. Here's why cash advances may hold enormous appeal for you.

    • You can have bad credit and still qualify for a payday loan. In most cases, no credit check is conducted.
    • The process is fast -- it takes as little as 20 minutes to complete. You can even find lenders who target approvals in 30 seconds!
    • There are no upfront costs -- so the buy-now-pay-later mentality can find full expression.
    • You can apply in person at a local outlet, over the phone or over the Internet.
    • You get funds deposited into your bank account in 24 hours.
    • Compared to some other sources for cash, payday loans are discreet -- no one else needs to know about it.
    • The transactions are secure -- your financial information remains private.

If you're faced with an emergency -- say, unexpected medical bills -- your only consideration might be to get money now. The speed and convenience of a cash advance comes in handy here.

    So what are the disadvantages?

The most obvious one -- high costs. A payday loan can cost you say, $15 per two weeks. If you're borrowing only for two weeks, that doesn't sound like much. However, if you calculate the Annual Percentage Rate (APR), you'll see it comes to 391%!

If you don't think that's too much, let me ask you this question. If you invested money in the stock market, what would you consider a good annual rate of return? 20%? Maybe 30%? If you made a 20% return (on average) in stocks year after year, you'd be doing very well indeed. And this is for an investment that's generally considered high risk.

Now compare that with what the payday loan companies charge. You are providing them with a return on their money they likely won't get anywhere else on the planet!

There is another, less obvious reason why payday loans are dangerous. According to some estimates, over 60% of borrowers roll over a payday loan. Many take loans repeatedly, too.

Let's put in some numbers so that you can clearly see what rollovers imply.

Assume you borrow $400 for two weeks at a cost of $15 per $100 per two weeks. At the end of two weeks, you owe them a total of $460.

Let's say you don't repay the $400 at the end of two weeks. Instead, you request a rollover. So you pay them the lending fee of $60 and they agree to roll over the loan for another two weeks. The total cost of the loan at the end of 4 weeks may be as follows:

    Original loan amount: $400
    Fresh lending fees payable: $60
Late fees payable: $60 (assuming late fees apply at the same rate as lending fees)
    Lending fees already paid: $60
    Total: $580

At the end of this period (which is 4 weeks from the day you originally took the loan), you decide that you don't have $580 available and so request them to roll the loan over for another two weeks. Then this is what it can cost you in total at the end of 6 weeks:

    Original loan amount: $400
    Fresh lending fees payable: $60
    Late fees payable: $60
    Lending fees already paid: $120
    Late fees already paid: $60
    Total: $700

If you continue this process for six months (more specifically, for 24 weeks), this is what it may cost you in total:

    Original loan amount: $400
    Fresh lending fees payable: $60
    Late fees payable: $60
    Lending fees already paid: $660
    Late fees already paid: $600
    Total: $1780

For an original loan of $400, in a mere 6 months, the payday loan company will collect fees and charges of $1380 from you. That's 3.45 times the amount you borrowed. In APR terms that's 749.5%! If over 60% of borrowers roll over their loans, no wonder many payday loan companies are wildly profitable!

Snowballing costs can easily lead you into a debt trap if you get addicted to payday loans.

So what are the key points to keep in mind when dealing with payday loan companies? Two things:

First, avoid them if at all possible. The best way is, of course, to get your finances fully under control so that you always have cash and / or credit available to meet emergencies.

Second, if you do choose to borrow from payday loan companies, borrow only an amount you're 100% sure you can repay on the due date. If that amount is too low to meet your needs, get additional funding from other sources. Because rolling over cash advances is one of the worst things you can do to yourself.

    A New Pair of Shoes

    Do the New

    An old pair of shoes

Do you have a really comfortable pair of shoes? They may be slippers or tennis shoes. It doesn't matter what kind of shoes, just so comfortable that you can slip into them like an old habit. These are the kind of shoes that you can't wait to get into after a hard day of work. Like Mr. Rogers slipping on his blue pair of Keds. Won't you be my neighbor?

I have a pair of shoes like that. They are so comfortable that I could probably fall asleep in them. And that may be the problem.

    A new pair of shoes

Do you remember when you were a kid and got the new pair of tennis shoes? I bet you felt like you could run faster and jump higher when you put them on. We recently bought my son a new pair of Batman tennis shoes. He took off! I didn't even have to wind him up.

How do you feel when you are dressed to the hilt and you are wearing a brand new pair of quality dress shoes? You are invincible aren't you?

Comfortable habits like comfortable shoes are nice to have, but I want to encourage you to try on a new pair of shoes every once in a while. Trying something new, like a new pair of shoes, may be uncomfortable at first, but it will make you feel like you can run faster, jump higher and be just plain invincible.

If this new thing stretches your comfort zone and your imagination, do it. If this new thing is a little uncomfortable, do it. If this new thing ir very uncomfortable, do it NOW!

No one ever grew by staying put and staying comfortable. Go get a new pair of shoes today.

The Mindful Shopper: Learning From Fashion Trends

Are you a fashion trend watcher? Do you spend a lot of time flipping through magazines and analyzing the wardrobe choices of others? Do you buy trendy items only to despise them--and yourself--later?

Trend-watching--and, more precisely, observing our trend-watching--gives us tremendous opportunities to create awareness of the traits we hope we have but are not sure we do. In fact, being frustrated, embarrassed, or depressed that we have succumbed to a trend is a perfect chance to discover what we value most.

It usually comes down to this: creativity and confidence. If we find ourselves buying that trendy little bag or those must-have shoes, that little voice inside us shouts "Sell-out!" and we start to feel that perhaps we're not all we'd hoped to be. After all, a truly creative person would buy--or even make--something unique, and a confident person wouldn't hesitate to go against the current trend and head in a completely different direction, or choose to buy nothing at all.

And thus begins a soak in the self-loathing tub, followed inevitably by an abandoned item at the bottom of the closet.

To avoid this, you must pay attention to it.

What trendy items are buried in your closet at this moment? Why did you buy them? Who were you with when you made the purchase? How were you feeling about the world in general and yourself in particular?

A little mindful shopping will help alleviate the Trendoid syndrome. And while you're at it, check in with yourself on that monologue going through your head when you see others sporting the latest fashion fetish. You'll learn a whole lot about YOURSELF if you listen carefully and--this is the hard part--non-judgmentally.

If you do melt at that crucial cash register moment, don't berate yourself. Simply take note of the way you feel now, and pay attention to how you feel later. Can you see that downward slide? Ah. That's better. Things are getting clearer now.

Buying into a trend helps us feel connected when what we really long for is a sense of confidence. Take a look at how you can create greater confidence WITHOUT buying that blouse-of-the-moment, and find ways to tweak the latest trend in a way that makes you feel more creative.

Fashion can be fun and absolutely harmless, and you can use your mindful mall meanders to tap into your own sense of who you are--and what you REALLY need.

Now, that's what I call a perfect shopping day.

5 Surefire Ways To Eliminate Credit Card Debt

Do you have enormous credit card debt? You are certainly not alone. According to research, the average family in the United States has $7000 in credit card debt and pays about $1000 in interest each year! Throw in a late payment or two, or an over-the-limit charge, and that number skyrockets. Imagine what you could do with that $1000 if it weren't being spent on interest.

Let's imagine for a moment that you have $5000 debt on one credit card that is charging you 17.5% APR. Let's also imagine that you pay only the minimum due of $25/month on this card. Guess what? You will never pay it off! The interest alone on this card is $73/month!

That means that each month you get further and further into debt. By the time you have been paying on this $5000 for 10 years, assuming you have not used the card during this entire period of time, you will owe $20,385! That's over $15,000 in interest. If you triple your payment to $75, it will take you over 20 years.

So, what do you do? How do you get out of debt and use that money towards other necessities, savings, and investments? Here are a few simple methods that you can use without having to go to an expensive financial counselor.

Tip #1: Cut Up Your Cards

The very best way to reduce your credit card debt is to STOP using your credit cards! There is no need to have more than one card, so pick the one with the lowest interest rate and cut up the rest. The one you keep should be deemed an 'emergency card." These are true emergencies, not mere inconveniences. For instance, buying a new TV would not be an emergency, but renting a car in order to get to the bedside of a dying loved one would be. You can carry your emergency card with you, but don't make it too easy to use. One good suggestion is to cover the card tape and paper and write on it: For Emergencies Only.

    Tip #2: Move Your Debt

If you have more than one credit card payment, you may want to consider moving debt from a card with a higher APR to one with a lower APR. This will lower the amount of money you are spending towards the interest and get you out of debt faster.

Tip #3: Use the Snowball Principle

List all of your credit card debts, and the amount you are paying each month. Pay off the lowest amount first. Then use that money to start paying off the second lowest amount. And then the next and the next. Let's look at an example.

If you have a $7000, $5000, and $2000 card with payments of $150, $125, and $100, you will finish paying off the $2000 card first. Once it is paid off, you take that $100 and put it towards the $5000 credit card. That means you are now paying $225/month. You have increased your payments which will pay off that credit card sooner and will have you paying a lot less in interest. Once that is paid off, you apply the $225 to the $7000 card, making your monthly payment $375. This will greatly accelerate the payment of this card, reducing your interest payments even further. When everything is paid off, you now have $375/month extra to put towards savings or investments!

Tip #4: Prioritize Your Debt Repayment

One of the best ways to pay off your debts is to get rid of the highest interest payment first. Looking back at the snowball example, you took the lowest and paid it first. If, however, the $2000 card had the lowest interest rate, you would want to pay off the card with the highest rate first. This will save you much more in interest payments.

If the math gets too hard here, don't despair. There are many places on the Internet where you can find good debt reduction calculators. It is then just a matter of punching in your numbers and reading the report.

    Tip #5: Consider Consolidation

If you own a home, you may want to consider consolidating your debt using a home equity loan. Since a home loan is a secured loan (they can take away your house if you don't pay) you have a much lower interest rate than you do on your credit cards. Paying a lower interest rate is always a good thing! Not only that, but the interest you pay on your home loan is tax deductible. This is NOT true for credit cards.

By following these tips, anyone can take control of and completely eliminate credit card debt.

The Hushed Willow - A review by Amanda Evans

The Hushed Willow by Lorna Joy Knox nee Ramsamugh is a collection of poetry that will stir your emotions as you embark on a rollercoaster ride through life. As the title suggests the poetry contained in The Hushed Willow is that of emotions and feelings that are kept silent, feelings of sadness, loss, betrayal and hurt. The author has an exceptional gift of portraying such vivid emotions in such few words and is a joy to read. The words of her poetry flow together so gracefully with images from nature jumping up to meet you as you read.

This book takes us through the many adventures of life and recalls a multitude of emotions on its way. Lorna Knox is an extremely talented poet who endeavours to portray so much in so few words. Lorna uses modern free style poetry but maintains the constant rhythm necessary for great poetry.

Containing so many wonderful works of poetry it is quite difficult to choose a favourite or even favourites, however, one poem that really grabbed my attention was "Despair", this poem contains very powerful emotions especially those in the second verse as the poet describes love as a dream. I was also really taken by the poem "Magic", a short and uplifting collection of words where I found myself smiling as I reached the end. The last two lines of this poem really help to sum up this feeling ? "To sit among a band, That will soothe me into never, never land."

At the end of this wonderful collection of poetry, Ms. Knox has concluded by giving us a taste of her other skills by including a short story titled "Bound in Friendship --- The Story of Two Friends". A remarkable story, well written that tests the boundaries of friendship in a light romantic story.

The Hushed Willow is a must for anyone with lust for poetry. There is a poem for everyone in this book, if you've lived at all you will definitely find a poem to relate to.

Lorna Joy Knox nee Ramsamugh is also the author of "Flames of a Rose" which can be purchased from all major bookstores including Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

What the Newspaper Ad Person Won?t Tell You

Newspapers are considered the PRIMARY advertising medium by 99.4% of all retailers. Newspapers have been there in every step of the typical store owner's life from the very beginning. Newspapers covered his birth, his high school graduation, his engagement, his marriage, the death of his parents and everything else.

Despite declining circulation figures and increasing ad rates, newspapers still reach large audiences, daily.

Many, if not most, retailers, lay out their own ads. It is said that over the years, merchants have come to believe the only way to get it right is to do it themselves. This thinking has given rise to the new breed of newspaper salesperson. No training, just a list of customers and the daily question "Gotchyur ad ready yet?"

You should understand the newspaper's weaknesses and learn to avoid them whenever possible. The Skinny for and against newspapers.

There is no proof full page or double-truck ads are more effective than half page ads. The savings can be spent on a concurrent radio campaign or billboards.

The same with color. It looks great, but the increased cost many times does not justify the small increase in readership. Forget the color and go with more frequency.

The paper is delivered daily, but there is no need for an ad every day as the paper reaches the same readers. 3 times a week works just fine. Spend the difference in the shopper or on a supporting radio campaign.

Newspaper coupons will have a better rate of redemption with a radio chaser. Especially if the coupons are NOT in a Sunday paper competing with 85% of all coupons weekly. Think about a coupons on Tuesday with siupportiung radio to drive them to it.

What the newspaper ad person won't tell you: Less than half of newspaper readers read the entire paper. Most are skimmers. How many times through the paper does it take for you to find your own ad?

Over half of every paper is ads. Almost as bad as TV. More than two-thirds of the Sunday brick is ads.

Newspaper rates are climbing faster than the space shuttle. The smallest of ads in the smallest papers can cost over $100. One time, one shot and POW!, its at the bottom of the bird cage.

Newsstand and subscriptions prices are rising, too. 75 cents an issue is rapidly losing to 4 quarters.

Most papers offer no competitive protection. Your ad can be placed side-by-side with the competition. Get the salesperson to guarantee you separation.

Daily newspaper numbers are dwindling. There are only a few more than 1000 daily papers. Smaller communities must rely on weeklies or papers from another area with a "local" section.

Newspapers are still a formidable advertising force. Find ways to continue to use the paper to increase store traffic, but do it with other advertising so the media mix is efficient. Don't let anyone tell you NOT to advertise in the paper.
